BACKGROUND: People in the navel Nectar In A Sieve are mostly followers of Hinduism. This religion was developed between 1400 and 500 B.C and it is practiced in many countries of Asia. Hinduism was a polytheistic religion which means that the people worshiped many gods. Hindus believed in reincarnation, and they acclaimed births and deaths, which is known as samsara. They also believed that the way you lived your life determine how you would be in your next life which is based on moral and purity called Karma. Caste systems also determined who was the ruling class, the middle and low class, the untouchables. This also influenced the afterlife.

The Lucky Fisherman

     












  In folktales, there are most of the time heroes. There is a major difference between a folktale hero and a mythic hero. A folktale hero has no powers, but a mythic hero has superpowers or super human powers. The aforementioned heading is the heading a folktale. There was once a man called Akon and he was very poor. He only lived by fishing. His dream was to marry a wife by assembling his money do have a marriage. Together, they had three sons. Akon was the best fisherman in his community, but since he was the most poor one, he could not afford buying materials for a good capture, so he made basket and traps out of wood to get fish.
         After several years fishing and trapping copious fishes, Akon and his son got rich. While going on a journey to hunt a big fish, a tornado suddenly appears, and Akon who was on the boat dies. The news was spread to his family, especially his sons. They wanted to kill themselves when they heard about the news but they were persuade not to do so by some peers. Akon had one of the biggest funerals in the community. When Akon was a child, he was poor and abandoned but he made it up because he caught this one big fish in his wooden basket. Akon was then called the luck fisherman.
        The character traits that show or symbolize that Akon was a mythic hero were that; he had to grow alone, he did not have superhuman powers but had resources but finding new ways of fishing, he went on a journey but did not succeed because of his death. As a result in this folktale, Akon is seen as a folktale hero.
